Interesting 19th c Poachers Fishing line with period wooden line winder – fitted with 10 x original line swivels – allegedly used to fish/poach the wild native brown trout at Stickle Tarn in Langdale Pikes of Cumbria. The line winders were used by local poachers and were handed down from generation to generation. The lines which held up to 80 hooks were set overnight, hanging on droppers from a long cord set across one of the many small bays. See attached articles from the 1950s following the exploits of father, son and nephew fishing Stickle Tarn and image of their catch. The story goes that there were three in existence and the other two are in a museum in the Lake District.
