Exchequer Tally Receipt 1827 - Being for £13s made out to Edward Bates who was secretary to the Board of Taxes. Black printing on Vellum with manuscript text mostly in Latin and two signatures, size 8” x 4”. This replaced the centuries old Wooden Tally Stick in 1826 and was only in existence until 1833 when the Exchequer was abolished. It is probably quite scarce as. most of these were probably burnt along with the accumulation of the wooden tally sticks in the furnace of the House of Lords which caught fire along with the House of Commons, which is why we have our present Parliamentary buildings.
