India & Punjab – Sikh War Mooltan Lithograph Original large handcoloured Lithograph title ‘In The Trenches – Van Cortland’s men’ showing Henry Charles Van Cortlandt Sikh troops attempting to crush the siege of Multan which started the Second Sikh War, Published in 1849 by Dunlop. Measures 36cms x 27cms. In 1832, Henry Charles Van Cortlandt joined Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s army and participated in various campaigns including the battle of Jamrud in which the famous general, Hari Singh Nalva, was killed. He was reinstated in the Sikh army, promoted a general and made governor of Dera Ismail Khan. In 1846, with the Sikh force under his command, to Kashmir to quell the revolt instigated by Wazir Lal Singh. During the Multan uprising of 1848 he openly supported Lieut Herbert Edwardes with his men. After the annexation of the Punjab, he was transferred to the British service as a civilian.
