Rare ‘Stevengraph type’ woven silk mini-bookmark commemorating the election of Viscount Cranbourne as MP for Darwen in 1885 - Cranbourne was the eldest son of the Marquis of Salisbury and sat for various constituencies from 1885 until he succeeded to the title in 1903. He led the ‘die-hard’ opposition to the reform of the House of Lords 1910-11 and served in various Conservative cabinets between 1922 and 1931 when he refused to serve in the National Government becoming a supporter of Churchill in his 1930s ‘Wilderness Years’. Framed measures 10x15cm approx.
