India - Latif’s History of the Punjab - 1st Edition. preface dated 1889. The first comprehensive history of the Punjab. Ex-public library with usual library stamps and marking, blindstamp and perforated stamp on titled page, no ink stamp of title page. Original dark red cloth binding coming adrift. First edition, pp.xix, 652, large folding map. Latif was extra Judicial Assistant Commissioner at Gurdaspur, Fellow of the Punjab University, and member of the Bengal Asiatic Society. He wrote numerous books on Punjab history, and was of his most accomplished works was titled 'Lahore'. One of the most detailed studies of the Punjab conducted in the 19th century, chapters covers. The early period, Mohammedan Period, The Rise of the Sikhs, Life of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and Period Following the death of Ranjit Singh. An extremely rare volume.
