Rae a 391 page book with one fold out map detailing an Englishman’s travel by Cunard steamer to New York then by Trains to San Francisco across the then new Union Pacific Transcontinental railway, then across the Sierra Mountains by Central Pacific railway. Giving a very detailed account about the American Railways at that time, extensively talking about the Pullman Cars, fellow travellers, places and people of the route, his travels by stage coach. In red cloth board cover, general condition A/G overall Note: This transcontinental railway was open only the previous year, thus he was the first Englishman to write an account of a journey over this line.
