India – Sikh History 1st Bn 1st Punjab Regt Christmas card and a large 45 Rattrays Sikh uniform button. The greeting card signed by Colonel C.H.B. Wright and Officers 1st Punjab Regiment. The Punjab Regiment is one of the oldest in the Indian Army. The first battalion which today constitutes this regiment was raised in 1805 by the then Maharaja of Patiala. The Regiment remained under British rule from 1922-1947 and was considered one of the bravest of all the Indian Army. The 45th Rattray's Sikhs was an infantry regiment of the British Indian Army who can trace their origins to the 1st Bengal Military Police Battalion raised in April 1856, at Lahore, by Captain Thomas Rattray originally consisting of a troop of 100 cavalry and 500 infantry. A rare and important button.
