Execution handbills group of approx five printed handbills recording crime and punishment (by execution) of various criminals early 19th c. All printed on somewhat poor paper but in good general order. These were often printed for the rather ghoulish spectacles of public hangings which in their day attracted thousands of people. Three carry wood blocked illustrations and each carry text recalling the crimes etc. The unfortunate criminals included : George Partridge for the murder of George Ansell in 1829,Robert Milburn for the murder of his mother in 1822; James Mackey for the muirder of Ann Somerville in 1828, Robert Brigstock for arson in 1834 and William Osborne for robbery and attempted murder in 1828.
