America – Sale of Carolina to the British Crown printed Act of Parliament dated 1727 for establishing an agreement with the seven of the Lords Proprietors of Carolina for the surrender of their title and interest in that province to His Majesty, black letter Act of Parliament 20pp folio disbound, paper browned but otherwise good. An intriguing development in the history of America. In 1663 a group of eight promoters obtained a patent from Charles II for all of North America between the 31st and 36th parallels under the name of Carolina. The enterprise returned no profit and the investors became indifferent to its development. The revolution in the colony in 1719 however led the Proprietors to consider their position and eventually, by this Act of Parliament, they sold the territory to the British Crown for ?5,000. Thus Carolina became a province of Great Britain. Rare. ESTC N50955 records only 1 UK location in the National Archives.
