WWII – North African Campaign two exceptionally fine photo albums compiled by a member of an RAF squadron stationed in North Africa from April 1942 – September 1945, covering the North African campaigns and the subsequent advance to the Mediterranean. Photos comprise various scenes from camp life, air raids, battle field scenes, captured enemy weaponry and planes and pictures taken during leave. One shot shows Churchill arriving to address the troops. Another shows Tenchard. A particularly important group shows the aftermath of El Alamein, and the aftermath of Tobruk. In the Mediterranean section there are shots of the famous eruption of Vesuvius in 1944 and the aftermath of the raid on Monte Casino. One further photograph shows the hanging and display of Mussolini’s body in the Piazzale Loreto in Rome. Included with the lot are the medals of the member of the RAF whose albums these were. These are two of the finest British albums we have seen. The majority of the shots are captioned (most unusual for a British album) and the condition is fine throughout.
