Very rare 1899 Swansea Rugby Club Welsh Champions Player’s gold and enamel medal – 9 carat gold and enamel medal engraved and issued to W. Joseph “Forward” inscribed to the rear, having Swansea Cricket & Football club crest on the obverse overall (VG) - for four consecutive seasons Swansea were the unofficial Welsh champions from the 1898/99 season through to 1901/02, c/w “Images of Sport Swansea RFC 1873-1945” book by Bleddyn Hopkins see p. 39 Swansea team photograph incl W Joseph (2) Note: Will Joseph played international rugby for Wales, Swansea and Glamorgan. A cousin to Dicky Owen, he was seen as the outstanding forward of the early 20th Century Swansea team, during an excellent period in the ‘All Whites’ history. Swansea were crowned Welsh champions for the third consecutive season in 1900/1901. The playing record was played 32, won 28, drawn 2, lost 2, points for 467 and points against 81.
