Letter of provenance verso from Alfred Walton Foster, the Nottingham artist, stating thus: "This original 'Bonzo' pup by G.E. Studdy was given to me (in exchange for one of my watercolours) by G.E. Studdy after a day's fly fishing at Caythorpe on the Dover Beck. The previous evening G.E.S had given a talk to the Nottm. Soc. Of Artists. Alfred W. Foster". Note: Studdy developed his most famous character within the pages of The Sketch.
