India – A preliminary sketch of Sikh Akali Warriors on paper. Strikingly similar to a Group Portrait of Sikhs from Patiala from the Frasier Album that was painted in Delhi c1815-20 now housed in the British Museum (inventory no. 1988 10-20 01) as depicted in The Arts of the Sikh Kingdoms by Susan Stronge of the V&A. It is quite conceivable that this sketch was a proprietary work by the same stable or artists. All are depicted wearing the famed Steel blue coloured turbans of the Sikh Akali warrior sect. Size 34cm by 24cm.
