Photographs – Palestine and the Holy Land collection of approx 48 albumen prints by P Bergheim c1860s, signed in the negative by Bergheim. Sizes 24x19cm approx and 29x23cm approx. Appear good condition throughout, though one or two have slight fraying to edges. The images remain strong. Most have pencilled captions to verso and some have an indication that these belonged to Benjamin Adshead. Also included is a litho print of Netherlegh House School and Grounds near Chester with ms note to verso stating that Adshead (born 1836) had attended this school in 1845. A rare and famous set of original photographs of the Holy Land. Subjects include: City of Tiberius, several of Jerusalem, Nablous, Lamaria, Jacob’s well and the tomb of Joseph, Tomb of the 40 Martyrs, the Wailing Wall, Mount Tabor, ruins of Capernaeum, spring of Elisha Jericho, Damascus, Jaffa, Tomb of St James, Nazareth, Bethlehem, Pool of Bethesda, the Tower of David, the Mosque of Omar, the Convent of Mar Saba, the Holy Sepulchre, Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, Tomb of David, Tomb of the Virgin, and many others.
