Rare Boxing Ticket 1914 – rare ticket for the ‘White Heavy-weight Championship of the World’ fought between Edward ‘Gunboat’ Smith and George Carpentier at Olympia on July 16th 1914. Framed and glazed. Approx 9x11 cm, a little browned but otherwise in good order. The ‘White’ championship was invented by promoters due to the popularity of the black heavyweight champion Jack Johnson.Smith won this particular contest, but lost to Carpentier later in the year. This fight was the highlight of Smith’s fighting career. He later became a noted referee and died, aged 87 in 1974.
