Crime and Punishment – The Trial of Richard Patch. Edition of the London Chronicle for April 5-8 1806 carrying an extensive report on the trial – a total of 18 columns (remarkable coverage for the time) with a virtual verbatim report on the trial of one of the most celebrated murderers of his era. Patch was found guilty of the brutal murder of Isaac Blight, a ship breaker, and was hanged. Considerable doubts have lingered ever since as to whether he was actually guilty. Together with a further edition of the London Chronicle covering the hanging.
