Charles II - Free Trade between England and Scotland official manuscript copy of Letters Patent from Charles II for the appointment of Buckingham and other commissioners to negotiate free trade between England and Scotland, dated January 12th 1668, written in a legible hand in English on 2pp folio (of a bifolium). Watermark suggests that this is a contemporaneous copy and may be the official copy as carried by Commissioners for the negotiations. An important historical document. Although Charles II was King of both England and Scotland, trade between the two Kingdoms was as it was with any other sovereign nation. This measure began the long process which was to lead eventually to the Act of Union under Queen Anne. With full transcript.
