India – M K Gandhi – father of the Indian nation Harijan Bandhu, a bound volume of this scarce journal founded by M K Gandhi and taking its title from the name given to the ‘Untouchables’ in India at the time – ie the poorest and least regarded of all the population. Bound in blue boards, the volume covers the years 1946-49 with a few bound in editions from earlier and with extra bound in items including the Hindi versions of the journal. The Harijan Bandu journal is considered one of the most sought after publications relating to India and individual copies are themselves sought after (see following lot as an example). It is extremely rare to find a bound run of the Harijan. This appears in excellent order throughout. Note: the indexes which are bound into the volume appear to have been removed from the original journals when issued and placed at the beginning of the volume for reference. The Harijan was founded by Gandhi in 1933 and ran continuously until 1949.
