Royalty – Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught, third son of Queen Victoria interesting correspondence between Colonel W F Collins DSO to his wife, Lady Evelyn Innes Ker, sister of the Duke of Roxburgh, early 20th c. Collins was a serving officer at Tidworth alongside Prince Arthur and his letters are peppered with reports on the Prince’s activities throughout: ‘...Prince Arthur gave me a Ruissian cigarette case last night as a present. It is really quite nice & a bit different ...he is in quite good form & I will let you know how he shoots when I get back tonight...I am writing to you this morning before getting your letter as Prince Arthur is very anxious to go to Winchester to play golf which will fill up the whole afternoon as it is some way from here...’ The letters also carry considerable comment about his day to day existence and some of the other officers he associates with : ‘...I winde up by having to dine with the Ian Hamiltons which will be rather boring I expect...’ Approx 22 letters in all with associated ephemera and telegrams including his passport.
