Thomas, Bert (1883 -1966)– original mix media golf cartoon titled published in the Daily Sketch on 19 June 1929 - titled “The Conservative” with hand written annotation below which reads Golfer, having gone round in 112 asks his caddy 2 “well what do you think of my game today” – the caddy in reply “Och – ah suppose it’s a‘right – but I still prefer gowf”-on-board overall 15” x 10.5” Note Bert Thomas was a political cartoonist contributing to Punch magazine and the creator of well-known British propaganda posters during the First and Second World Wars and became nationally known for his cartoon "Arf a mo, Kaiser", drawn in ten minutes for the Smokes for Tommy Weekly Dispatch campaign. The cartoon raised nearly a quarter of a million pounds towards "comforts" (tobacco and cigarettes) for front line troops
