Ferdinand Fissi 1872-1954 A castle interior with a young girl descending a sweeping stone staircase about to confront the waiting ghostly figure of a knight. Signed. Oil on board 24 ¼”x 31 ¾”. Prov: The artist himself, thence by descent. Note: Ferdinand Fissi was born in Greenwich, London, on 11th June 1872. He became well known as an illustrator, particularly for motoring publications, also as a scenic artist for studios in Britain and America, where he emigrated in 1924. Perhaps his most famous work was the series of illustrations for the account of “Jack the Ripper” which appeared in “Famous Crimes” in about 1903. Fissi died on 18th October 1954 at Port Credit, Ontario, Canada. Condition report: Very good, original frame
