FLY TYING BOX: Green leather covered fly fishers portable chest, described as the middle or second box in Kelson’s “ The Salmon Fly”, pages 457-8, probably made by Bambridge (auctioneers opinion), measuring 16” x10.5” x6”, diamond impressed pattern leather, military style handle, hinged lid lifts to reveal a black leather lining, black leather on wood lift out tray with inner tray, block of Vewax, brass lock plate, early green travel ticket, 24 spools of Pearsall’s Stout Silk Floss, varied colours, and 58 Allcock manufactured Kelson pattern black blind eye salmon fly hooks, sizes ranging 2” to 6”, corresponds to those illustrated in Kelson’s book “Tips” p137, a facsimile copy of this chapter and of the hooks is included in the lot, plus a facsimile article, Fishing Gazette, May 2nd 1914, The Triumph of Mrs Sydney Fane”, whole page article, penned by Kelson on the fishing expertise, technical knowledge and dress habits! of Mrs Fane (one would think they were more than just fishing companionsJ) Provenance Cheffins Lot 287 sale of fishing tackle, Mrs Violet Fane. 14-04-11.
