India – Sikh history. Two silk cloths of the Maharajah of Kapurthala & Patiala c1920. Beautiful vintage Indian satin needlework panels of Jagatjit Singh Bahadur (24 November 1872 – 19 June 1949) who was the ruling Maharajah of Kapurthala in the British Empire of India from 1877 until his death in 1949. He ascended the throne of Kapurthala state on 16 October 1877. Maharajah Bhupinder Singh (12 October 1891 – 23 March 1938) was the ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala from 1900 to 1938. A true Anglophile he established the first Sikh Gurdwara in the UK in London. He was captain of the Indian cricket team that visited England in 1911 and played in 27 first-class cricket matches between 1915 and 1937.Size 28cm by 31cm each.
