Longitude an edition of the Edinburgh Evening Courant for October 14th 1761 with a report on the activities of Neville Maskelyne, in sailing to St Helena to observe the Transit of Venus as well as his investigations into determining longitude. Maskelyne, the Astronomer Royal believed that longitude could be determined through astronomy alone, but it was John Harrison, a humble clockmaker who eventually determined longitude through the development of watches.
