LOT 328 - Hitler’s Invasion Plans For Ireland. WWII – Operation...
Auction Date: 27th September 2012
Hitler’s invasion plans for Ireland. WWII – Operation Sealion scarce copy of Militargeographische Angaben uber Irland published in 1940 as part of Hitler’s overall invasion plans for the UK – the book is filled with views of the whole of Ireland north and south and has a folding map to rear. Fine condition together with eight separate folding maps (fine condition) showing various aspects of the UK and Ireland and a list of place names. Rare. While many copies of the booklets involving the invasion of England have appeared in these rooms in the last few years this is the first that we have seen relating specifically to Ireland. The Republic of Ireland was officially neutral during WWII – but clearly Hitler was planning to invade Ireland as well as the mainland of the UK – it is quite possible that there was a plan to invade the UK via Ireland. An disquieting thought for the many Irish at the time who believed their neutrality kept them safe from the Nazis ! Together with a book on Tripoli bearing an English inscription purporting to be from Mussolini (though most unlikely).
