Beatrix Potter’s Recipe Book Literature – ephemera – Family recipe book containing a number of culinary recipes written on approx 29pp of an 8vo sized volume which also contains various other entries including a few financial pages historical notes and a few verses. The recipes include one for marmalade and also for making ginger bread. Vellum boards with brass clasp still intact. Ms name ‘Heelis’ to front cover with some indecipherable writing to spine (possible to remove accumulated grime to reveal). Provenance: we understand this was sold in the sale of Beatrix Potter’s belongings in the 1954. The attribution to the Heelis family suggests that this would have come by descent to William Heelis Beatrix Potter’s husband. Entries in the book date from 1851 but there are many entries in much later hands- whether any of them are in the hand of Beatrix Potter is open to conjecture.
