1892 West Bromwich Albion v Aston Villa English Cup Final match ball : the original segmented leather ball used in The English Cup Final (FA Cup Final) in 1892 gilded painted and inscribed – “This Ball Was Used In The Final For The English Cup When The Albion Defeated The Aston Villa 3 Goals To Nil At The Oval London On March 19th 1892 C Perry Captain” and further inscribed “Presented To Ald Heelis By Mr J. Bowen Presented By Ald Heelis To Mr W. Richards” some small areas of paint loss and some staining over all in good/very good condition surmounted by a stuffed and mounted Throstle stuck down to the ball the ball mounted on a gilt-metal three prong stand decorated with a figure of a cherub all on a circular hardwood stand. Note the ball was exhibited at West Bromwich Albion Centenary Exhibition The Hawthorns Provenance: Mr W. Richards thence by family descent to the present owners The Throstle was added after the ball was gilded and This was the first FA Cup Final in which goal-nets were used.
