LOT 227 - WWII – Autograph – Adolf Hitler Rare Typewritten...
WWII – Autograph – Adolf Hitler rare typewritten letter signed dated Munich March 1st 1932 addressed to the Brunswick Legational [trans] ‘I hearby request leave of absence to the end of the time for the selection of the next President of the Reich Yours Faithfully Adolf Hitler.’ 1p 4to overall marks of carbon paper indicating that this might be a retained copy though the signature looks original. It is probable that Hitler typed this letter himself. There are a few typing errors and he has mistyped the salutation. Letters of Hitler of this importance are extremely rare. Although Hitler left his native Austria in 1913 he did not take up German citizenship. This prevented his intended attempt to run for President of Germany against the ageing Hindenburg in 1932. However in February of that year the State of Brunswick in which the Nazi Party participated appointed Hitler to a minor administrative post and also made him a citizen of Brunswick on February 25th just four days before this letter was written. As the States of Germany could in those days confer their own citizenship this automatically made Hitler a German citizen and thus eligible to run for President. In the event he lost the election to Hindenburg but fought the election for Chancellor in 1933 – and the rest as they say is history.
