Annual Review 2010

Mullocks achieved another record year with the £1,000,000 turnover barrier being broken for the 2nd year running exceeding £1.3m. Despite the economic climate we saw demand for quality items exceeding supply, but becoming harder to find. It is anticipated that while bank interests remain low or this trend should continue into 2011 with prices continuing to hold up. We would advise Clients who may be looking to sell in the near future to contact us for further advice - forward planning is essential if clients are looking to optimise their collections.

Mullocks were pleased to welcome Keith Hartwell to the team, who joined us in the Spring coming from one of the leading Birmingham Toy and Military auction houses. His in-depth knowledge across the board has added another dimension to the company, offering clients a wider and more complete service and advice. Keith held his first Toy and Military sale in October which was a huge success and he's now planning for his next sale in March and has already catalogued over 300 lots - don't miss out and be sure to contact Keith asap - see dates for next year

We held 4 x 2day Sporting sales this year which was split into general sports on day one and football and rugby on day two. We were instructed to sell 5 private collections which were evenly spread out over the year to avoid flooding the market. We saw the Rugby section continue to grow in stature, the football market is holding up well although  some areas are beginning to level out - the last sale of 2010, despite the arctic conditions, saw a very buoyant trade with a rare Sphairistike tennis racket selling for £3200, a record price was achieved for 1930 British Lions v New Zealand 4th Rugby Test programme which realised £2300, back in September a collection of Manchester Utd programmes from 1947  - 1964 virtually complete seasons grossed £16,665 - we are always looking for private collections and don't forget we are solely professional auctioneers, we are not collectors or dealers - no conflict of interest and it's our aim to achieve the best prices possible - the more you make the more we make!

In July we went to The Open Golf Championship in St Andrews to hold our Golf Memorabilia auction and the decision was well rewarded with a turnover of £103,000.  The sale was attended with buyers from all over the world. In 2011 we will be back at Hoylake for our first Golf Memorabilia sale on Thursday 28th April which we had to change from Saturday 30th April to allow our clients to attend "The Wedding" the day before.

Our Vintage Fishing tackle expert John Stephenson achieved record entries and sales turnover with each sale exceeding the magic £100, 000 grossing £340,000 for the 3 sales - again several record prices were achieved and entries are already flowing in for 2011 - don't delay and contact J.S  today - his ‘phone is always on  - even on Christmas day!!!

Finally the Historical Document department saw our expert Richard Westwood Brookes achieve his best year ever - he starts the 2011 campaign for Mullocks  in January and the catalogue is about to go to print and should be online over Christmas - that's if you're really getting bored of course.

Finally John and all the team from Mullock's would like to thank all their clients for their continued support and look forward to another exciting year ahead - wishing you all "The Compliments of the Season, a Healthy and Prosperous New Year" - and weather permitting seeing you at our 1st sale on 18th January.
