The Open - Golf Auction Report - St Andrews July 2010
A new record was achieved at this year's Golf Auction with the £100,000 barrier being broken for the first time.
The decision to go to St Andrews for the 150th Open Golf Championship drew one of the best entries seen for some years, incl a wonderful art collection, the Bruntsfield medals, Open Championship programmes, Tom Morris postcards and much more.
The venue in St Andrews was the perfect location complimenting the early artefacts; it attracted buyers from US, Canada, Australia, Europe and collectors from all over the UK. At one time there were over 80 buyers in attendance, 30 online bidders and 70 absentee bidders. It made life for John Mullock much easier selling the 675 lots in just 4.5hrs - finishing at 3.30pm. Hopefully everyone went home with something - the 6 stall holders had a good reception and most sold something.
Trade was good all the way through with each section recording a very buoyant trade which augurs well for the future - has the tide finally turned?
