Sporting Memorabilia Sale Report - 7th & 8th April 2010

1962 World Cup Winners medal realises £8000
The strong demand in 2009 spilled over into 2010. There were several new buyers in attendance not only from Britain but from Europe as well - in addition to a well attended sale there were a further 94 absentee bidders together with 46 registered bidders online, telephone bidders et al.
The first day incl over 200 lots of Rugby (mostly from a private collector), Cricket, Tennis, Olympics, Boxing, Motor Sports and country pursuits.
The second day was dedicated entirely to football which incl a good cross section of Programmes, Caps, Shirts, Medals, Trade Cards, Autographs, Tickets et al. Undoubtedly the highlight being the 1962 World Cup Winners football medal which was won by Brazil and awarded to Amarildo who replaced Pele after being injured in only the 2nd Group Match. Although withdrawn at the sale it was sold immediately afterwards to a private collector.
We are now building up for the next two day sale to on the 23/24th June to coincide with The Football World Cup, Wimbledon, Test Match Cricket, Grand Prix et al - what a feast for all sports fans - entries are still being accepted.
Immeditaley after the June sale we then had north to St Andrews for the 150th Open Golf Championship where we will be holding our next Major Golf Auction - entries close for this sale in May.

Day Two
Generally rare and early football programmes continue to hold up well - whereas the late 60s and 70s and 80s although found new homes bulk lots were harder to sell possibly a direct result of the present economic climate.
Nevertheless the highlights of the day was the sale of the 1962 World Cup winners football medal which realise £8000 and sold to a private collector. Good collection of signed memorabilia was on offer and again the players of the day sold quite readily. As usual Manchester United iTunes continue to attract huge interest, we also saw an England cap awarded to Liverpool's Chris Lawler realised £700.
