Auction News SATURDAY 30TH JUNE, LUDLOW RACE COURSE VINTAGE AND COLLECTABLE FISHING TACKLE SALE A good crowd of enthusiastic buyers attended on both viewing and sale days despite the impending rain to view and buy the lots offered for sale. Our long established tackle fair as usual offering the visitors additional items for sale by the various collectors and dealers. (Contact us to book your stall for the November Sale, details below) Approx 750 lots of collectable antique and quality fishing tackle went under the hammer to a busy auction room at the established Ludlow racecourse venue. Bidding on the internet was strong as many International and UK buyers logged onto BIDLIVE to watch and interactively bid online against bidders in the saleroom. Prices were as usual very strong on the coarse fishing items. Allcocks Aerial reels with the rare roller back reels selling over estimate, wood back Coxon roller back aerial lot 171 sold for £2600 whilst lot 171a metal back Roller Aerial sold for £3900. A rare Aerial Model Perfect sold over estimate for £2500. Unusual trotting centre pin reels remaining strong, the more obscure maker, the more collectors chase it. Hardy as always are strong with rare and fine models commanding a premium. Lot 573 Hardy brass faced Perfect £580, Lot 172 Hardy 9" ex wide Fortuna sold for £1050 despite a cracked rim, Lot 161 Hardy Silex multiplier £950, and lot 293 Hardy 5" half ebonite sells at £600, and Hardy Zane Gray reel Lot 174 sold for £6000, this lot clearly effected by the strong UK pound against the US Dollar, the matching Zane Grey rod lot 173 in need of restoration sold well at £1050. Accessories and gadgets remain very strong, Lot 316 Fred G. Shaw Gaff sold well over estimate at £740, a rare Hardy Unique cabinet lot 493 sold for £3300, scarce Hardy Landron leather tackle case Lot 582, sold for £2200, Hardy combined gaff and priest lot 198 sold for £950. Ogden Smith Complete Tackle Outfit, Lot 420, sold for £460. A curious little booklet pamphlet, Lot 55, was enthusiastically bid for up to £320. Rods in fine condition continue to sell well, lot 581 Hardy Traveller in split cane £400, Lot 428 Pezon et Michel £260.B.James green whipped Avocet £300 with a resurgence on B. James MK4 Carp and Avon Rods brought prices back to £150-250 arena of 2 years ago. Cased fish are bumping about at present, fine Cooper Tench, Lot 384, sold on estimate at £1000, and an early wood carved Perch, Lot 395, well over estimate for £1200 showing that rare and unusual is the benchmark for fish collectables.
