Bidding for the first time can be nerve-wracking, so we've put together some simple tips to explain the process and what to expect.

What information does the auction catalogue include?
The catalogue provides a description of the item, a guide price and lists its order in the sale as well as a reference, which you will need if you are looking to leave a commission bid, bid online, or arrange a telephone bid.

Should I inspect the items?
Yes. Items included in the sale are available for you to view of the day prior to the sale, and while we do include detailed photographs and descriptions in our catalogue and online, we would also recommend that you make arrangement to view the item before bidding or acquire a condition report.

What is a guide price?
A guide price is set by our team to give prospective bidders an indication of the price we expect the lot to sell at. This isn't fixed and items can be sold for significantly more, or less than this up to a reserve, which the seller sets. This reserve is confidential and if the item does not reach it, the lot will be withdrawn from sale.

What if I want to buy an item but can't attend the auction?
A member of our auction team will be happy to bid on your behalf, however we will need to make arrangements prior to the sale, and to complete a telephone / commission bid application. We also stream auctions live via www.the-saleroom.com so you can also register before the auction and place bids online.

How Do I get a Catalogue?
Contact us to order a printed catalogue or view a fully illustrated catalogue online.

I intend to bid remotely, so how do I arrange collection of the item?
Once payment has cleared we will be happy to make arrangements for suitable collection and delivery.

What is the Buyers' Premium?
A Buyers' Premium of 17% of the hammer price (exclusive of VAT) is payable.
